Selection Criteria

Studies included in the searchable evidence base have been selected following a systematic literature review of academic literature. The selection criteria for studies was:

  • Studies must have been published in peer reviewed journals
  • Studies must have been published after 1997 (although studies earlier than 1997 have been included if they are related methodologically to other included studies)
  • Studies had to be available in English language format
  • Studies must demonstrate a quantifiable impact on violence (Thus, studies which focus on attitudinal changes, screening tools, and knowledge changes related to violence are currently excluded)
  • Included studies must have reached the standards required by our quality assessment tool1
  • Studies are identified as highly rated if they receive from two reviewers, four or more strong ratings and no weak rating for the criteria set by the quality assessment tool

The full review methodology is available upon request.

If you are aware of any studies that you believe meet these criteria yet are not included in the database, we would be very grateful for details of these. We will assess the studies against our criteria and add relevant studies to the database.

A systematic review of grey literature has not been conducted, but we would also be very interested in receiving grey literature which provides evidence of effective violence prevention interventions. Any submitted publications will be assessed and included in the database as appropriate.

Please use the Contribute button in the menu to submit publications for consideration.
