Evidence Base Search Help

Step 1 – Select Violence Type

Selecting violence types to search by can be carried out by ticking the checkboxes next to the title and image of each violence type. You may select as many or as few violence types as you wish.

If you select more than one violence type the search will return studies from the evidence base which has any of these violence types.

If you do not select any violence types the search will be not be violence type specific.

Step 2 – Select WHO Region

Select a WHO Region from the drop down menu. If you do not wish to narrow your search to a specific region select the default value of All Regions.

Step 3 – Specify Keyword Search Type

If you do not wish to search by keywords, you can skip this step.

If you wish to return searches featuring all of the keywords you enter, select the option contain all keywords.

Or If you wish to return searches featuring any of the keywords you enter, select the option contain any keywords.

Step 4 – Enter Keywords

If you do not wish to search by keywords you can skip this step.

There are five fields into which you can enter keywords. Only one word maybe entered per field and each word must be made of at least two letters (no single characters), no numbers or punctuation or spaces.

The search automatically looks for wildcard versions of keywords entered. For example if you enter the keyword 'randomize' it will return studies containing that word and plurals of that keyword, for example 'randomized'.

But the search will not return searches containing the word 'randomised' when searched by the keyword 'randomized'. This is because the difference between the two words is in the body of the word, rather than extra letters at the end of the word.

The search also automatically looks for common search words such as 'the' and 'and' and removes these from the search. If the submitted search contains these words when searching for studies containing all keywords, a message will be displayed asking for these words to be removed and the search to be resubmitted.
